The Office of Campaign Finance is responsible for the enforcement of the Campaign Finance Act of 2011 through the conduct of audits, the investigation of alleged violations of the Act, and the conduct of informal hearings to address the alleged violations of the reporting and disclosure requirements, prescribed by the Campaign Finance Act and Chapters 30 – 43 of Title 3, “Elections and Ethics”, of the District of Columbia Municipal Regulations.
The OCF Regulations governing investigations and the informal hearing process may be found in Chapter 37, “Investigations and Hearings”, of Title 3. The audit procedures may be found in Chapter 34, “Campaign Finance Recordkeeping and Audits” of Title 3. Investigations may be initiated by the filing of a complaint by a member of the public, a referral by the Board of Elections, or internally generated by the Office of Campaign Finance.
The Director may institute the informal hearing process to address alleged violations of the reporting requirements; and conduct audits to ensure accurate reporting.
